The 5th edition of the Lagos Young Entrepreneurs Awards 2024 (LAYEAWARDS), held recently in Lagos at the prestigious Watercress Hotel, Ikeja.
The evening began with lively networking and a red-carpet reception over light refreshments. There was also good music to vibe to as guests were thrilled with various afrobeats artists from the city of Lagos and its environs.

LAYEAWARDS CEO/Creative Director, Ashifat Saheed Oluwahnisola, in his keynote address, emphasized the critical role that young entrepreneurs play in building the economy and wealth of Lagos State, which is the 5th largest economy in Africa. Categorically stating that the government has also acknowledged their contribution to the development of the state.

Speaking further, he said the idea is to reward and inspire these young entrepreneurs who are relentless in their pursuit of success. “The purpose of this event is to inspire the younger generation of entrepreneurs, reward hard work, promote entrepreneurship and raise awareness about the key roles the young business owner plays in building the socio- economic wealth of Lagos State to the 5th largest economy in Africa.”

This year’s awards saw twenty entrepreneurs get rewarded in different categories for their hard work and three others receive a lifetime award for their tenacity and perseverance in business for the past twenty-five years.


Two companies were also recognized for their support and social responsibilities in Lagos State.
The special guest, Senator Tokunbo Abiru, who was represented by Mr. Enitan Olupitan, while giving his speech, acknowledged the organizers for their laudable initiative to reward and recognize young entrepreneurs and their contributions towards the economy of the state. He reiterated his support with the LAYEAWARDS as he also has the vision of supporting young entrepreneurs who face difficulties in raising capital. He said this constrain experienced by young businessmen and women, led him to establish a constituency intervention revolving loan, where 300 million was channeled in, to help genuine businessmen and woman access capital at 6 percent per Anum.

Speaking further, he said tangible success on this project has been recorded as this initiative has empowered a lot of young businesses in his constituency. There is also a project called sale innovation lap where people are trained in digital tech skills free of charge. This digital training has also aided a lot of young people towards getting employed in reputable IT firms. He said, “Seeing such young entrepreneurs rewarded for their hard work, makes me happy as it proves that it’s not all doom for our great country Nigeria, indeed, the future is bright and very promising.”

He congratulated the organizers for such initiative as well as the awardees, promising to continuously support the LAYEAWARDS.

The event also gave some of the finest up and coming artists an opportunity to showcase their talents. This they did with so much grace, entertaining and thrilling the audience all through the night.
