Manufacturers use PFAS, particularly a type called fluoroelastomers, to make bands more durable and resistant to oils and sweat. These chemicals help bands retain their color and flexibility, but they come with a hidden cost—potential exposure to toxic substances.
The study also revealed that some bands containing PFAS didn’t list it on their labels, making it even harder for consumers to make informed choices.
