Nigerian singer Ayra Starr has shared her blunt take on attraction and relationships, saying she would rather end a serious relationship than remain with a partner after developing stronger feelings for someone she finds more attractive.

Ayra Starr has once again got people talking, this time not with a new song, but with her opinion on love, attraction and commitment.

The Nigerian singer, whose real name is Oyinkansola Sarah Aderibigbe, was responding to a woman who sought advice about finding herself attracted to another man while already in a serious relationship.

Speaking on the Ask Ayra Starr show, the singer said that if she found herself in the same situation, she would choose to end her existing relationship rather than stay with her partner while pursuing someone else.

For Ayra, the alternative is simple. If her feelings have genuinely shifted, she would rather leave than attempt to maintain two relationships at once.

“If I’m in a serious relationship with a guy and then I find another guy more attractive, I would break up with him instead of dating both of them at the same time.”

She added that she does not believe it is possible to genuinely love two people at the same time, suggesting that someone caught between two romantic interests should take time away from both relationships to understand what they really want.

“I don’t think you can love two people. I think you need time to yourself so you can figure it out.”

Ayra Starr’s Take Is Really About Choosing, Not Cheating

At first glance, the singer’s statement sounds like a simple argument about physical attraction. But there is another part of what she said that is worth paying attention to.

Ayra did not suggest secretly maintaining both relationships while deciding which man she preferred. Instead, her position was that if her feelings changed significantly, she would leave her current relationship before pursuing somebody else. That distinction matters.

Attraction can happen even when someone is already committed. Being in a relationship does not suddenly make other attractive people disappear. The real question is what a person does when that attraction appears. For Ayra, the answer is to make a choice.

But Is Being More Attractive Enough Reason to Leave?

This is where the conversation becomes more complicated. Finding someone else physically attractive does not necessarily mean that a relationship has stopped working.

People in healthy relationships can still notice attractive people. They can develop crushes. They can meet someone who looks better, dresses better or initially gives them a stronger physical spark.

But attraction is only one part of a long term relationship. Compatibility, trust, emotional connection, character, shared values, friendship and the ability to build a life together can become far more important as a relationship grows. That is why Ayra’s comment is likely to divide opinions.

Some people will agree that nobody should stay in a relationship once their heart has genuinely moved elsewhere. Others will argue that physical attraction alone is too temporary and unstable a foundation on which to make a major relationship decision.

What Happens When the New Person Stops Feeling New?

There is also another question hiding underneath the singer’s advice. Sometimes, a new person appears more attractive simply because they are new. There is no history, no arguments or unresolved issues. No difficult conversations. No everyday responsibilities.

You are seeing the exciting version of the person, while your current partner is the person you know completely. That can make the new person feel more appealing than they actually are. The excitement of a new attraction can be powerful, but it is not always the same thing as compatibility.

And that is why Ayra’s second point, taking time to figure things out, may actually be more important than the first.

Ayra Says She Would Rather Leave Than Date Two People

The singer was also clear about one thing; she does not support trying to maintain both relationships simultaneously.

Instead, she would end the existing relationship before pursuing the new attraction. That position places honesty above convenience. It also avoids putting two people in a relationship where one person may be completely unaware that the other is already emotionally invested elsewhere.

Whether people agree with her reasoning or not, there is something straightforward about the approach.

If your feelings have genuinely changed, be honest about it before moving on.

Now the Internet Has a Question

Ayra Starr’s comment is almost guaranteed to divide social media. Would you leave a good relationship simply because you met someone you found more attractive? Or would you recognize the attraction, let it pass and continue investing in the person you already chose? Because sometimes the person who catches your eye is not necessarily the person who should have your heart.

And sometimes, as Ayra Starr suggests, discovering that your heart has genuinely moved may be the sign that it is time to have an honest conversation.

Either way, her answer has opened up one of those relationship conversations Nigerians are likely to debate for days.

So, what do you think? Is finding someone more attractive a good enough reason to end a serious relationship?
