The Independence Day promotion covers all Filmhouse Cinemas, as well as Silverbird SEC, Silverbird Galleria and Silverbird Kaduna, with selected independent cinemas also taking part.

That means movie lovers in different parts of the country can take advantage of the offer while celebrating Independence Day with a Nigerian story on the big screen.

However, viewers should confirm the promotion and availability with their preferred cinema before heading out, as participating independent cinemas may vary.

A Nigerian Story for Independence Day

Directed by Adebayo Tijani, King Kosoko: The Battle For Lagos stars Femi Adebayo as Oba Kosoko. The film takes viewers back to 19th century Lagos, telling the story of Oba Kosoko’s resistance to British imperial power and his determination to defend the sovereignty of the Kingdom of Lagos.

The historical conflict eventually contributed to the 1851 bombardment of Lagos, an event associated with the Salt Water War. This makes the timing of the promotion particularly interesting.

As Nigerians mark 66 years of independence, audiences are being invited to watch a story centred around sovereignty, resistance and the struggle for control of a kingdom.

A Star Studded Cast

Femi Adebayo leads an impressive ensemble featuring some of Nollywood’s familiar faces, including Odunlade Adekola, Jide Kosoko, Fathia Balogun, Gabriel Afolayan, Femi Branch, Tina Mba, Yinka Quadri, Dele Odule, Aishat Lawal, Kolawole Ajeyemi, Niyi Johnson and Sola Kosoko.

The movie is presented in Yoruba with English subtitles.

Since its theatrical release on August 28, the filmmakers have said the movie has crossed ₦65 million at the Nigerian box office.
