Bestie, Toyin Abraham's new movie

Toyin Abraham is slowly revealing the faces behind her upcoming cinema movie Bestie, and her latest announcement has brought another Nollywood heavyweight into the picture. The actress and filmmaker has unveiled veteran actress Sola Sobowale as the second confirmed cast member of the highly anticipated movie, days after introducing legendary actor Pete Edochie as the first.

Sobowale will play the character Mama Ngozi in the film, which is scheduled to hit cinemas nationwide on December 16, 2026.

Abraham announced the casting on Thursday through her social media pages, celebrating Sobowale with the kind of introduction that immediately caught the attention of Nollywood fans. “She’s a LEGEND, a GOAT and she’s a KING!” Abraham wrote while unveiling Sobowale as Mama Ngozi in Bestie.

The casting brings one of Nollywood’s most recognisable veteran performers into a movie that has so far kept much of its story and wider cast under wraps.

Sobowale is particularly known for her commanding performances, with memorable roles in productions including King of Boys, The Wedding Party, Aníkúlápó and Battle on Buka Street. Her portrayal of Eniola Salami in King of Boys also earned her the Africa Movie Academy Award for Best Actress in a Leading Role in 2019.

Pete Edochie Was the First Reveal

Before Sola Sobowale’s announcement, Toyin Abraham had already revealed another Nollywood legend. Veteran actor Pete Edochie was unveiled on September 14 as the first major cast member of Bestie, with the actor taking on the role of Papa Ngozi.

That means the first two major cast reveals have already put two generations of highly recognisable Nollywood talent at the centre of the project. And with both Pete Edochie and Sola Sobowale attached, fans now have even more reason to wonder what kind of story Abraham is preparing for the December cinema season.

One interesting part of the Bestie rollout is the gradual unveiling of the cast. Rather than revealing everyone at once, Abraham has been introducing the actors one at a time, giving fans something new to anticipate with each announcement.

The filmmaker first announced Bestie in September, confirming that the movie would arrive in cinemas nationwide on December 16. At the time, details about the storyline and full cast were still being kept under wraps. Now, with Pete Edochie and Sola Sobowale confirmed, attention is naturally turning to the next name Abraham will reveal.

Bestie is arriving during one of the busiest periods on the Nigerian cinema calendar. Toyin Abraham has previously released films around the festive season, including Ijakumo: The Born Again Stripper, Malaika and Alakada: Bad and Boujee. Her most recent cinema release, Oversabi Aunty, crossed the ₦1 billion mark at the Nigerian box office.

This year, Bestie will also enter a December cinema schedule that includes major Nollywood releases from other leading filmmakers. Funke Akindele’s The Four: No One Fights Alone is scheduled to open five days earlier, on December 11.

For now, Toyin Abraham is keeping the biggest details about Bestie close to her chest. But with Pete Edochie playing Papa Ngozi and Sola Sobowale stepping in as Mama Ngozi, the cast reveal is already giving Nollywood fans plenty to talk about. And if Abraham has more names of this calibre waiting to be announced, the next reveal could be just as interesting.
