Ayra Star Breaks Records at the BET Awards: First Nigerian Woman to win Big
Nigerian music star Ayra Starr has made history by becoming the first Nigerian woman to win the Best International Act at the 2025 BET Awards held in Los Angeles.
The event took place at the Peacock Theatre and was hosted by popular comedian Kevin Hart. While the night was full of glamour, Ayra’s win stood out as one of the most special moments.
Ayra beat top artists from around the world, including Rema (another Nigerian star), and musicians from South Africa, the UK, Brazil, and France. She was also nominated for Best Female R&B/Pop Artist and Best New Artist, this historic win was more than enough to celebrate.
With this award, Ayra Starr now Joins the list of Nigeria’s biggest stars like Wizkid, Burna Boy, and Davido, who have also won BET Awards in the past.
The biggest winner of this year’s BET Awards was Kendrick Lamar. He took home four awards, including Album of the Year for his project GNX.
