The Adekunle Gold Foundation has hosted its latest quarterly sickle cell medical outreach, delivering vital healthcare services to more than 400 individuals living with Sickle Cell Disease (SCD) in Lagos. The initiative was organised in partnership with the Sickle Cell Advocacy and Management Initiative, ensuring patients received comprehensive medical support.

Comprehensive Medical Support

During the outreach, patients benefited from specialist consultations, diagnostic lab tests, blood transfusions for those with severe anaemia, pain management, crisis care, physiotherapy support, and the distribution of essential medications. Attendees also received prescription drugs and treatment supplies to last up to three months, offering much-needed relief and continuity of care.

Nigeria’s Sickle Cell Burden

Sickle cell disease remains one of the most prevalent genetic conditions globally, yet it receives far less international attention and funding compared to other diseases. Nigeria bears the highest burden worldwide, with millions affected and thousands of children born with the condition each year.

Personal Advocacy by Adekunle Gold

Founded by Adekunle Gold partnership with the Lagos State Ministry of Health and Lagos State Health Management Agency. Additionally, the foundation is collaborating with researchers at New York University Department of Global Health to explore new interventions aimed at improving treatment outcomes and quality of life for patients with SCD.
